5 things you should know before starting a business

Having a great idea is good, but having a great idea backed by a great strategy is better.
Do you want to start a business, do you want financial independence, are you eager to work toward your own dreams instead of someone else's? Good — there are things you need to keep in mind in order to succeed.
The 5 things you should know
1. Cover a real need. Your service or product must, without question, meet a real need for a group of people. Don't let yourself get seduced by trends. It's common to see people launch certain ventures into the market simply because many others are doing the same. Just because something is trending doesn't mean it will work well for you.
2. Study your competition. When there are many similar products or services, competition is overwhelming and it becomes harder to position yourself as a brand. So think your idea through carefully and approach the need from an angle no one else is taking. Bring something to market that doesn't resemble anyone or anything else.
3. Know your audience. Another thing you should know before jumping into the entrepreneurial arena is that you must know the audience your service or product is aimed at like the back of your hand. Putting a brand on the market without knowing who it will serve is like buying a size 9 shoe when you wear a size 7. What's going to happen with those shoes? They won't fit. The same thing will happen with your brand.
4. Know your strengths. Work on a business idea where you can pour in all your experience and expertise. Be smart — don't try to cover areas you don't know well.
5. The budget! This one is critical: starting a business means investing. Think these things through with a cool head. Don't let emotion carry you away into squandering money without a clear strategy, a defined business model, and a well-built budget.
The 5 things that hurt your venture
Now, the five things that will hurt your venture — the ones to avoid at all costs. Pay attention.
1. Lack of fighting spirit and perseverance. If you're going to start a business, you must be strong, you must be brave. Your mind has to stay focused. You have to see the glass as half full instead of half empty.
2. Lack of financing. Money is a fundamental part of it, which is why I said at the start of this article that a great idea alone doesn't make a business. Keep this factor in mind.
3. Trying to cover too much and not setting a specific focus. Stay centered, establish a mission and a vision. Segment — the more specific you are about the service you're offering, the better you'll do.
4. No qualified team. Don't go it alone. Bring together the best people you can, bring in professionals you know will contribute knowledge, experience, and useful tools for reaching your business goals.
5. Not investing in advertising. Many people go to market wanting to sell immediately, but they don't want to invest in ads. You need a marketing strategy built on content worth someone's attention, and campaigns that carry it across social media and other platforms.
Try to avoid these 5 things. Strengthen your strategy and get advice from experts. Your business will succeed if you have initiative, creativity, and if you're quick to correct mistakes. A mistake corrected in time can save you from sinking.
