Mentoring: key to your development as a leader

Mentoring is a practice of teaching and learning carried out with the guidance of someone we call a mentor: a professional, capable person who shares their experience in order to help others.

One day you wake up, drink your coffee, read your favorite book, and learn something valuable that pushes you to develop in some area of your profession. And you think: what if I could also be an instrument of transformation and inspiration? That is how a new vocation is born — mentoring.

Every day we are surrounded by things that, by their very nature, radiate wisdom and teach us even though they cannot speak. And we are surrounded by people with more experience or more knowledge than we have, who help us with a particular need. Mentoring is everywhere, at every hour.

To teach, to show, to guide, to advise, to help: these are the verbs that define what mentoring is. If you have caught the bug, as I did, of practicing all of those verbs on behalf of a community, then you have found one of the most remarkable qualities of being human. The more we grow, develop, and prosper, the more equipped we are to help others grow, develop, and prosper.

I see mentoring as a way of life. Every master class I teach is a collective learning experience with two aims: first, to have a positive impact on each participant's life, and second, to encourage them to develop as entrepreneurs capable of holding their place in their niche and reaching the goal they long for.

I believe in mentoring because it means balance. They gain, I gain. I gain, you gain. Investing in learning always pays off. Remember that you are like fertile ground: with every seed planted in you, a dream germinates and a vision develops with a single objective — fulfillment. After that, all that remains is to pass the baton.

A leader's work is daily, constant, made of passion, desire, and dedication. Nobody becomes great simply by dreaming it. You will become great when you are willing to be shaped, helped, guided, and taught by a mentor whose only interest is your growth and your future.

If you find yourself lost on the way toward your business goals, remember that there are, and always will be, effective leaders near you who are willing to give you a push. And remember that investing today in your personal and professional development is investing in the success of your future.
